Five Years Forward represents the collective voice of the research community, the university’s leadership and external partners. From the start, the strategic planning process has been collaborative, engaging a broad and diverse group of participants from throughout the university’s five campuses and in the surrounding business and nonprofit communities.

Forward Thinking Event GroupEngagement | May 2013 – November 2013

  • 65 stakeholder groups identified
  • Input through online surveys, interviews, focus groups, meetings and public forums
  • Close to 4,000 individuals on the university’s five campuses and in the surrounding business and nonprofit communities

Analysis/Discovery | November 2013 – February 2014

  • Data analyzed by internal and external experts using quantitative and qualitative measures
  • Stakeholder feedback combined with the guidance of university leadership
  • Vision, cornerstones and supporting goals identified and refined
  • Plan finalized as Five Years Forward through Collective Inspiration and Discovery and presented to Board of Regents (Feb. 14)

Implementation | February 2014 –

  • Executive steering committee established to identify leadership for supporting goals, review specific action plans, establish success measures and support and publicly promote the strategic plan
  • University faculty and administrative leadership work teams identified to implement goals and help design specific action plans

To help ensure focus and alignment, university leadership has convened leaders and experts with diverse backgrounds, academic disciplines and roles from across the university’s five campuses and external communities to provide guidance in implementing the strategic plan.
