UMN invention licensing revenue tracks up as school spins out most startups ever

UMN Technology Commercialization reported $20.7 million in revenue from researchers' inventions in fiscal 2019 and spun out a record 19 new startups.

A big part of the revenue jump was the windfall from five university startups that went public or were acquired this year, said Rick Huebsch, the executive director of technology commercialization at the university. Those exits include ed-tech startup FastBridge Learning; gene sequencing company CoreBiome Inc.; and gene-therapy startup B-MoGen Biotechnologies Inc.
