Innovation Minnesota, which brings together leaders from industry, higher education, and the broader innovation ecosystem to identify areas where Minnesota can build on its strengths and take practical steps toward greater growth, has released its Innovation Minnesota 2025 Annual Report.

The report  outlines a strategic model for a  continuous, connected innovation pipeline linking early education and research universities with industry partners and government priorities. This pipeline begins with early exposure to science and technology, advances through higher education and research, and culminates in applied innovation that serves industry, community, and national priorities.

The group’s mission is to enhance the state’s social and economic prosperity and position Minnesota for success in retaining and attracting a talented global workforce.

The 2025 report focuses on two strategic areas that serve as the anchors for the innovation pipeline:

  • K-12 STEM Education: Broadening access to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics across the state to build foundational skills and spark early interest and strengthen talent development.
  • National Security Research: Accelerating partnerships that translate applied research into workforce development, economic security, and technological leadership

Looking Ahead

While Minnesota has a long history of excellence in sectors like medical technology, manufacturing, and agriculture, the 2025 report emphasizes that future growth depends on a cohesive ecosystem rather than relying on isolated programs. By linking early education and research universities with industry partners and government priorities, this coordinated effort will ensure that different stages of the innovation process reinforce one another, building a pipeline that will serve students, businesses, and the nation for decades to come.
