Research Animal Resources (RAR) is excited to announce the winners of the 2025 Patrick J. Manning Award: Dr. Fernanda Fumuso, Dr. Jennifer Tinklenberg, and Chloe Strege (pictured above, left to right).

This award recognizes a University of Minnesota employee, postdoctoral associate, or graduate student who works with and has demonstrated special efforts on behalf of research animals. Nominations for the award were submitted by University colleagues, and each winner received a personal honorarium of $1,000.

Congratulations to the 2025 award recipients!

Dr. Jennifer Tinklenberg (postdoctoral associate) is a research associate in the
Department of Neurology where she has worked with research animals in the Pacak lab for
two years.

“Jenny is always thinking of ways to both minimize the numbers of animals needed for experiments and find ways to use [research] from these animals for as many purposes as possible.”

Dr. Fernanda Fumuso (graduate student) is a research assistant in the O’Connor Lab and is studying for their Ph.D. in Comparative and Molecular Biosciences

“Dr. Fumuso made a significant contribution to lab animal welfare by publishing an alternative method to oral gavage.”

Chloe Strege (staff) is a research assistant in the Tolar Lab and is studying for their Ph.D. in Comparative and Molecular Biosciences

“Chloe contributed to curating a refined animal care protocol…[that] largely focuses on efforts to reduce the overall stress placed on breeders and resultant pups.”
