
The Research and Innovation Office (RIO) is excited to announce the recipients of the 2025 Social Justice Impact Grants. RIO will provide a total of $226,424 to fund the following projects that address social justice and community well-being across Minnesota:
- Gail Dubrow (Architecture) for "Engaging Minnesotans with Disabilities in Preserving Disability Heritage"
- Yuanyuan Hu (Social Work) for "Reducing Racial Inequities in Behavioral Health Care Uptake for BIPOC Older Adults: A Natural Language Processing Study"
- Fayola Jacobs (HHH Regional Planning and Policy) for "Culturally Appropriate Emergency Preparedness and Response Training in North Minneapolis"
- G.Nic Rider (Family Medicine) for “Campus Responses to Sex Trading: Implications for BIPOC and LGBTQ Students in Minnesota”
- Jeff Waid (Social Work) for “Uplifting Caregivers' Voice to Strengthen Systems of Prevention for Minnesota’s Children and Families”
Launched in 2020, the Social Justice Impact Grants aim to catalyze rigorous, solution-oriented research on social justice topics, including criminal justice reform, housing segregation/gentrification, systemic racism, achievement gaps, health disparities, and environmental justice. RIO expects to support between three and six projects each year.
