Faculty Burden Reduction Committee
The CRAD Faculty Burden Reduction Committee (FBRC) advises the Vice President for Research and Innovation on creating and optimizing all aspects of pre-award, post-award, project management, close-out, and research compliance. Working in tandem with CRAD, the FBRC engages with researchers across campuses, colleges, schools, centers, and institutes to understand the complexities and bottlenecks in pre-award, post-award, close-out, research compliance, and project management. The scope of the committee includes all processes that affect research operations at the Principal Investigator, unit, and university levels.
The FBRC meets monthly over Zoom, on the first Thursday of the month (1:30p.m. to 2:30p.m.). Twice a year, it also organizes a program review meeting with partners, including Sponsored Projects Administration leaders, RIO compliance unit directors, and other central administrative teams as needed such as OIT, OGC, Finance and others.
Share Your Experience
The FBRC would like to hear from you regarding ways the University could reduce faculty burden to support research. We seek input regarding:
- Situations where a pattern of burden is observed or experienced (not feedback for isolated or one-off instances of burden)
- Situations that are likely within the control of the University (see note #1 below)
Notes:
- While the University typically does not have control over administrative burden stemming from state- or federally-mandated regulations, there could be instances where the interpretation and implementation of these rules and regulations could be considered for refinement.
- This form is the equivalent of an idea box. New submissions are reviewed monthly by the FBRC, monitored for trends, and assessed for potential action. The Research and Innovation Office or the FBRC do not respond to every submission. Input and action taken are summarized in an FBRC activity report annually.
Committee Membership
FBRC Membership is a group of core faculty who meet regularly. Partners, such as SPA and RIO compliance unit directors and other central admin teams (OIT, OGC, Finance, etc.) are engaged in a bi-annual program review.
