RIO Announces 2026 Funding and Awards

RIO Internal Funding & Awards

The Research Development Office is pleased to announce RIO’s funding and award programs for 2026, which includes a recently launched Grant-in-Aid category focused on social justice impact.

RIO provides over $5.8 million (including matching funds) in funding and awards annually to support and nurture the University of Minnesota’s systemwide research enterprise. The programs offer a broad range of resource opportunities, from smaller seed grants designed to jump-start new ideas to larger funding opportunities designed to incentivize collaborations across disciplines that address strategic needs.

2026 Highlights

RIO will offer the following funding and award programs in 2026:

Review Committee Opportunity

Several of RIO's grant programs are reviewed by an existing committee of UMN peers. For other funding and award programs, RIO recruits reviewers with knowledge and expertise that aligns with the program. If you are interested in serving on a review committee in the future, please contact Executive Director of Research Development Robert Hampshire,  at [email protected].
