The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has issued Notice Number NOT-OD-26-034, which increases the salary cap for NIH grant and cooperative agreement awards and extramural research and development contract awards to $228,000. It is effective retroactive to January 1, 2026. The new cap amount should be used in all new or renewal NIH grant proposals that include individuals who are over the cap. The new cap may be applied to distributions on existing awards retroactive to January 1st.
MN-GEMS and ECRT will be updated with the new cap as soon as possible.
