The UMN Spatial Forum is a yearly event highlighting spatial research, teaching, and outreach. This event is free and open to the public and features lighting talks, conversation, and the Borchert Lecture.

Rolf Weberg & Lucinda Johnson of the Natural Resources Research Institute, will give the Borchert Lecture. The Borchert Lecture honors the late John Borchert, UMN Regents Professor in Geography & member of the National Academy of Sciences. Their talk is titled Vignettes in Natural Resource Management; Rocks, Wood & Water

The mission of the Natural Resources Research Institute at University of Minnesota Duluth is to "deliver research solutions balancing Minnesota's economy, resources and environment for resilient communities". In this work, NRRI partners with colleagues in industry, academia, government to help translate good ideas into decision tools and commercial solutions to move Minnesota's economy forward in a sustainable fashion. GIS plays a particularly important role in a majority of programs at NRRI. This talk will provide an update on NRRI's organization and focus, a summary of GIS capabilities and presentation of several example projects.
