There has continued to be strong interest in access to the DigitalGlobe Basemap at the University of Minnesota throughout 2016. Access requests have come from students, faculty, and staff from a range of departments across campus, including Public Affairs, Forestry, Mathematics, Architecture, and Earth Sciences. Over 75 unique users have been using the Basemap to discover global imagery from Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, Burkina Faso, Nepal, Kauai, Minnesota, and beyond.

Big Ten Academic Alliance Geoportal
The Geoportal was launched in August and provides discoverability and facilitates access to geospatial resources. The resources in the portal are selected and curated by librarians and geospatial specialists at ten research institutions in the Big Ten Academic Alliance.
 
The resources include GIS datasets, web services, and digitized historical maps.

The International Year of Global Understanding (IYGU) Story Maps Competition is a contest aimed at young people from around the world to help raise awareness of the global implications of local everyday actions. Esri is inviting high school and college age students to share their perspectives and research on topics associated with global understanding by creating story maps that examine and address the ways in which we inhabit our increasingly globalized world.
