In December, the Board of Regents approved an updated policy for Research Involving Human Participants that now includes a set of Guiding Principles that outline our shared commitment to ethical research practices. The new Principles specifically emphasize the relationship between the researcher and research participants, reminding us that "Essential to the research enterprise is preserving the trust of research participants." Treating our research volunteers with respect and compassion is a critical part of our role as researchers and in our work to advance science.
