Incorporating NIH Data Sharing Requirements into Protocols and Consent Forms

Data sharing requirements are expanding with the new NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy, which goes into effect January 25, 2023. This policy encourages sharing of data collected from human participants, which means that protocols and consent forms need to be aligned with data sharing plans. In collaboration with the Libraries' Research Data Services (RDS), language around data sharing has been incorporated into the IRB protocol and consent templates, available in the IRB Toolkit Library

RDS can help you plan for data sharing through consultations, resources, and learning opportunities. You can learn more about the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy and University of Minnesota resources through their NIH video seriesNIH DMS Plan FAQRDS website, or by contacting RDS at data@umn.edu.
