In AUTM's latest release of data (2019), UMN Tech Comm ranks among the top 10 US public universities in four key measures of tech transfer success, including number of startups launched, inventions disclosed, US patents issued, and licenses/options executed.
These latest rankings, alongside other statistics tracked annually as measures of success, reinforce that UMN Tech Comm continues to be a nationally recognized leader in technology transfer, known for its innovation and impact, and demonstrate that the office plays an essential role in Minnesota's vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem.
“These numbers reflect the robust culture of discovery among our faculty, who make important advances in everything from cancer treatments to sustainable chemistry to new grape varieties,” said Rick Huebsch, executive director of UMN Technology Commercialization or Tech Comm. “Our Tech Comm team, which stands out among its peers for its direct industry experience, builds on that base of innovation and facilitates getting the inventions coming out of our labs and test fields to the marketplace. These rankings show that we have a lot to be proud of.”
