Institute for Social Research and Data Innovation

Institute for Social Research and Data Innovation (ISRDI) is an interdisciplinary research institute made up of four centers (IPUMS, Minnesota Population Center, Life Course Center, and Minnesota Research Data Center) that advance knowledge of societies and populations across time and space, including economic and demographic behavior, health, well-being, and human-environment interactions.

Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change

The Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change (ICGC) seeks to foster an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural community of faculty and students committed to supporting and advancing research, education, and collaborative initiatives related to global change, with a focus on the Global South. An interdisciplinary group of more than 80 affiliated faculty members from six colleges and schools help support ICGC’s international scholars, graduate courses, research initiatives, and program governance.

Minnesota Bioinnovator Accelerator

The Minnesota Bioinnovation Accelerator (MnBA), formerly known as BBIC, advances biotechnology and biomanufacturing at UMN and throughout the state. By leveraging our state's talents and resources, MnBA addresses industry needs and channels economic growth across Minnesota. MnBA is a catalyst for cross-disciplinary research translation, innovation, experiential education, workforce training, and stakeholder partnerships.

Minnesota Sea Grant

The Minnesota Sea Grant College Program (MNSG) is a federally funded, systemwide program that is part of a national network of 34 Sea Grant programs that support Great Lakes, coastal, and marine communities, ecosystems, and economies through research, extension, communication, and education. MNSG provides actionable research data to industry leaders, policymakers, educators, community organizations, municipal governments, the public, and university members and organizations.

National Security Research Institute

The National Security Research Institute (NSRI) serves as a national hub to drive interdisciplinary partnerships on national security-related funding opportunities. NSRI advances leading-edge research and workforce training programs and promotes and sustains strategic partnerships with government agencies, DoD and national labs, defense-oriented entities, academia, and industry.

Natural Resources Research Institute

Natural Resources Research Institute (NRRI) was created by the MN Legislature in 1983 to deliver applied research informing environmental stewardship and economic development of the state’s natural resources. It is a nationally unique model for integrated research focused on three strategic initiatives: Ecosystem Resilience, Future Forest Industries, and Iron & Minerals of the Future.

Research Computing

Research Computing enable and accelerate compute, data, and spatial research with world class systems, talented staff, events, and funding. Research Computing oversees the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute, U-Spatial, the Data Science Initiative, and the International Institute for Biosensing.
