Announcing the Research and Innovation Office!

UMN Block M; Research & Innovation

The Office of the Vice President for Research has changed its name to the Research and Innovation Office.

This change helps our office and the University to better communicate the innovation and entrepreneurialism that are a growing aspect of our work and our culture at UMN, and that are key to our ability to differentiate ourselves and our impact from that of other higher education and research institutions.

Research and Innovation Office (RIO) is a name that balances important aspects of research at the University, namely basic or fundamental science research, translational research, and technology commercialization.

Our new name reflects the University of Minnesota’s increasing role as a global research powerhouse solving complex problems and creating innovations that positively impact people's lives.
