Portrait of Jungho Ryu

When: August 25, 2023, 10:30 - 11:15 a.m.
Location: Amundson Hall (Room TBD), In-person and Zoom
Title: "Can it be possible to convert sufficient electric energy for the IoT from stray magnetic fields?"

Jungho Ryu will present a seminar on the potential of converting electric energy for the Internet of Things (IoT) from stray magnetic fields. See seminar abstract.

Jungho Ryu is an associate professor at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Yeungnam University, Korea. He obtained his BS and MS degrees in materials science and engineering from Yeungnam University, Korea in 1996 and 1998, respectively. He completed his PhD in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Seoul National University, Korea in 2001, specializing in magnetoelectric composite materials. During his PhD research, Ryu worked at the International Center for Actuators and Transducers (ICAT) of Pennsylvania State University, focusing on magnetoelectric composites and piezoelectric materials. Following the completion of his PhD, he continued his work on high-power piezoelectric materials as a postdoctoral researcher at the same center. Before joining Yeungnam University in 2018, Ryu held positions as a senior engineer and project leader at Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. Ltd, Korea (2003-2006), and as a principal researcher at the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), Korea (2006-2018).

Ryu's current research interests encompass the development and processing of piezoelectric and ferroelectric devices, energy harvesting, ceramic processing, smart actuators, and the fabrication of functional thin/thick ceramic films through the aerosol deposition process.

Ryu has an extensive publication record, with over 300 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, and he holds more than 100 patents in the fields of magnetoelectric and piezoelectric materials and devices, as well as functional ceramic films. His research articles have been cited close to 14,500 times, and he has an h-index of over 57 (as of August 2023, Google Scholar).
