Caching Delays
Seeing an "old" version of a webpage? This may be happening because your browser is pulling up a cached version - an older version saved locally on your PC. Your browswer does this to be more efficient, lessening the reloading time/effort that is needed to pull up a page.
You can do a few things to trigger your browser to refresh, but usually it takes just a few hours for the changes to work their way through the various levels of management and appear everywhere, for everyone. Here is what you can do to see the latest versions:
- Clear browser caches
- Use a private/incognito browser to view the page
- Create a cache-busting URL: add a "?" and a unique string of characters at the end of your URL each time. Hit enter to go to the page
If this doesn't work to see the latest edits, we are likely dealing with a "stubborn" caching issue. Your next steps/options are:
- Request that I/OVPR-web clear the cache for the website (this can be performed once every 10 minutes)
- Wait a few hours, or until the end of the day, when the UMN servers are refreshed
With advanced planning, we can request cache clearing to be performed at a particular time. This is an EXCEPTION to our/OIT's normal operations and should only be used for exceptional situations.
