The Sustainable GeoCommunities Workshop brings together academia, industry, non-profit and community-based organizations, and government to strategize on the evolution and implementation of the Sustainable GeoCommunities program, strengthening partnerships between the United States and India at all levels.

This workshop will include plenary sessions, discussions, panels, and forming workgroups for various topics. Day 1 will include setting the stage for the SGC with a diverse range of leaders from India and the United States:

  • Sustainable GeoCommunities objectives
  • Funding priorities
  • Community engagement
  • University programming
  • Tools, technology, and approaches for informed decision making
     

Day 2 will be focused on creating new partnerships to address several key SDGs including:

  • Issues: water and waste; energy/climate mitigation; social aspects, health and well being
     

Participants to the workshop are coming from many organizations including:

Led by the University of Minnesota (UMN) and the University at Buffalo (UB) in partnership with Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), IIT Bombay (IITB), IIT Delhi (IITD), IIT Goa (IITG), Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (a multicampus Indian university) and others, Sustainable GeoCommunities will help local communities around the world grow and thrive by meeting UN Sustainable Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
